The development of Chinese opera in the past 100 years has devoted the most space to female main characters.These women,though differ in performing styles,have made the highest achievements in performing art and made the characters best known to the audience.Those “gentle” and “firm” figures as well as “gentle but firm” art performance help shape the beauty of traditional Chinese women,displaying the unique pursuit of Chinese opera on the world stage.If “gentleness” and “firmness” are regarded as the characteristics of the singing in Chinese opera,then how will the female singers express the beauty of traditional Chinese women by being “gentle” and “firm”,and using the “gentle but firm” method? In view of this problem,based on the dual perspectives of historical tracing and modern presentation,this paper makes a comprehensive analysis and demonstration on the music form,artistic style,performance practice and artistic inheritance of female characters in Chinese opera through qualitative and quantitative methods.This paper mainly discusses from the following five aspects:1.From the perspective of history,culture and society,this paper analyzes the cultural construction of female roles in Chinese opera,explains the aesthetic meaning of women’s "gentleness" and "firmness" in traditional culture and the aesthetic tendency of taking "gentleness" as beauty,so as to reveal the cultural root of the "central position" of female roles in Chinese opera.This paper further interprets and presents the special cultural phenomenon of the "central position" of women’s roles in Chinese opera through the logical division of genre types and theme contents of the centennial plays of Chinese opera.2.Through the analysis of the music form of "gentle" and "firm" in the singing art of female characters in Chinese opera,combined with practical cases,this paper explains the "heterogeneous isomorphic" relationship between the music form in Chinese opera and Chinese traditional aesthetic psychology.It is demonstrated that in the musical forms such as melody,rhythm and language,as well as the traditional and modern theme types,the essence of women’s "gentle beauty",the "firm" attitude and the “gentle but firm” artistic characteristics are perfectly presented.3.Combined with the timbre,language,expression and action in opera performance,this paper analyzes the performance of "gentle" and "firm" female characters in different singing styles,and comes to the conclusion that those characters fully embody the “gentle but firm”artistic charm through the application and integration of "drama and song synthesis","national singing" and "Bel Canto",It has created a unique opera singing style in China.4.Using the visual research means of "Vmus.net" and "Praat",this paper analyzes the presentation of singing artistic characteristics,singing methods and emotional expression of female roles in contemporary multiple horizons.From the perspective of history,opera performers should not only faithfully restore the music style of the era of music creation,but also make a new interpretation of historical works;From the perspective of art,opera creators’ deconstruction of artistic style and performers’ secondary creation of works show diversified artistic characteristics;From the perspective of time,the same opera performer’s understanding of the same style and type of opera works in different time periods expresses multi-dimensional artistic emotion.5.This paper discusses the aesthetic orientation and practical mode of Chinese opera.Focusing on "creative transformation" and "innovative development",Chinese opera should focus on the aesthetic appeal of contemporary society,and interpret the performance style of Chinese opera based on national,international and temporal spirit;In the artistic practice of female role singers in Chinese opera,we should constantly strengthen the characteristics that are easy to be sung,stimulate the emotional expression of resonance,refine the diversified and interconnected singing style,pay attention to the grasp of the law,the reinterpretation of the role,the reconstruction of ability,and the unity of technological innovation and stage connection.Through the study of the history and reality of female role singing art in Chinese opera,the following conclusions are drawn:The feminine bias of Chinese traditional culture and the aesthetic psychology of women’s beauty are the cultural roots of the "central position" of women’s roles in Chinese opera;The typical characteristics of female roles,such as mode,harmony texture,rhythm and melody,describe women’s "gentle" and "firm" character,and highlight the "gentle but firm" female music expression;The comprehensive expression of timbre,language,expression and action of female characters realizes the "gentle","firm" and "gentle but firm" beauty in opera;In the exploration of singing practice of new aesthetic pursuit and value orientation,we should look at and promote the reinterpretation and stage presentation of female roles from multi-dimensional perspectives such as "identity" and "difference",and then transmit the beauty of stage art of female roles in Chinese opera to the world in inheritance and innovation.
