| This paper makes a comparative study of Chinese and English verbal humor corpus from three perspectives: pragmatically,logically and cognitively.It uses conversational implicature theory,presupposition theory and subjective quantity theory to make qualitative and quantitative comparisons between Chinese and English verbal humor corpus,seeking the similarities and differences between Chinese and English verbal humor generation,and classifies and compares Chinese and English verbal humor from the perspective of subjective quantity theory.The paper explores the relationship between the types of verbal humor and its effect in Chinese and English.The full text consists of 5 chapters:Chapter 1 is the introduction,which introduces the research status,research theory,research method,research significance and value of this topic.Chapter 2 defines the concept of verbal humor.Firstly,the concept of "humor" and "verbal humor" in Chinese and English cultures is compared and analyzed.According to the research needs of this paper,verbal humor is finally defined as: "Verbal humor is a kind of humor which is expressed in language and is created by linguistic laws,communicative laws,rhetorical laws and logical thinking laws.Meanwhile,the research object of verbal humor in this paper is determined as the corpus of popular Chinese and English talk shows in recent 5 years(after2017).This paper selects 1000 Chinese and English verbal humor corpora each from the selfbuilt Chinese and English talk show corpora of about 460,000 words(about 260,000 words in Chinese and 200,000 words in English)as research objects.Chapter 3 studies the generation of verbal humor in Chinese and English using conversational implicature theory from the perspective of communicative rules.This chapter makes a qualitative and quantitative analysis of 2000 Chinese and English verbal humor corpus,and calculates the use frequency of each criterion and sub-criterion of the cooperation principle in the generation of Chinese and English verbal humor,and explores the reasons based on the commonness and difference of the use frequency.This chapter analyzes the reasons for the differences from the perspectives of cultural value,philosophy of life and way of thinking.Chapter 4 studies the generation of verbal humor in Chinese and English using presupposition theory from the perspective of logical rules.This chapter makes a qualitative and quantitative analysis of 2000 Chinese and English verbal humor corpus,and calculates the role of presupposition theory in the generation of Chinese and English verbal humor and the frequency of each subtype of presupposition,and explores the reasons based on the commonness and difference of the frequency of use.This chapter analyzes the causes of differences from the perspectives of thinking and cultural origin.Chapter 5,from the perspective of cognitive rules,uses the subjective quantity theory to study the generation and humorous effects of Chinese and English verbal humor.1.The length of the thinking path of Chinese and English verbal humor dislocated by subjective expected quantity and actual quantity is divided into five categories: subjective near quantity,subjective medium quantity(subjective [medium-] quantity,subjective [medium] quantity,subjective[medium +] quantity)and subjective far quantity,and the relationship between various types of verbal humor and the humorous effect is tentatively studied.2.The Chinese-English verbal humor corpus is divided into three types according to the direction type: forward type,deviant type and reverse type,and the relationship between the anisotropic verbal humor and the humor effect is tentatively studied.3.Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis on 2000 Chinese and English verbal humor corpora,and compare the quantitative distribution and humorous effects of Chinese and English corpora from the perspectives of subjective quantity and orientation,in order to find out the rules and differences in the generation of Chinese and English humor.4.Analyze the reasons for the differences between Chinese and English talk shows from the aspects of presentation,program censorship and thinking.In this study,theories with strong explanatory power in pragmatics,logical linguistics,cognitive linguistics and other disciplines are applied to the study of verbal humor,a complex linguistic phenomenon,in an attempt to break through the bottleneck of domestic verbal humor research,establish a connection between the types of verbal humor and humorous effects,and bring new vigor and vitality to the study of verbal humor. |
