The genetic algorithm is one of the best global searching optimal solutions on simulating evolution and heredity of natural creatures. It doesn't calculate the derivative of the objective function, and is not limited by function's continuity which only calculates fitness function value. Being widely used in various fields for the feature of global search, it prevents us from falling into local extremium in counting multimodal functions. This article describes research status and theoretical knowledge of genetic algorithm and wave impedance inversion, also explains the principle of wave impedance inversion grounded on genetic algorithm by introducing algorithm into impedance inversion.Based on traditional genetic algorithm, randomized crossover is replaced by bit-by-bit crossover which endows every gene with the same crossover probability and bigger searching space, as well as avoids missing of preferable genes. Meanwhile, the strategy of elitist preservation chooses to copy better unit for the next generation which ensures global convergence by averting damage of high quality genes. Using inversion comparison with simple theoretical models, we can see from the results that after every algorithm improvement, fitness value and inversion curve are all enhanced. If utilize the two advanced methods on genetic algorithm simultaneously, the inversion curve tallies more with forward curve which carries the point of ameliorating algorithm. While computing relative complex theoretical model with above-mentioned improved genetic algorithm, the results has proved the feasibility. At last, I got the profile of impedance with expectant purpose after carrying out calculation of impedance inversion grounded on genetic algorithm with practical seismic data. Overall, the outcomes are satisfactory with the anticipation.
