As a branch of modern optics, nonlinear optic studies on the nonlinear phenomena and their applications in media under a strong coherent action. The effect of light induced refractive index change (short for photorefractive effect),refers to a change in refractive index caused by the nonuniform spatial distribution of light intensity when the electro-optic material is illuminated.Photorefractive nonlinear optics are mainly developing in two different directions: One is the developing of high-performance photorefractive materials.The other one is researching the nonlinear characteristics of photorefractive crystals, the application of optical information processing, optical storage and optical calculating. Presently, we have developed many Multi-purpose nonlinear devices making use of the characteristics of photorefractive materials.For example, Three-dimensional photorefractive volume holographic storage, Self-pumped phase conjugator, Optical image amplifier and Oscillator.Resently, the research of photorefractive nonlinear surface wave focuses on two directions:the nonlinear surface wave under diffusion mechanism and under diffusion-drift mechanism. Firstly this article introduces the basic theory of photorefractive effect, next analyzes the formation mechanism of the surface wave, then introduces Split-step Fourier method and uses it to solve the nonlinear Schroedinger equation. For the SBN crystal,we get the MATLAB numerical solutions of nonlinear surface wave under diffusion-drift mechanism. The solutions are showed in this article.Finally, we analyse the error of these solutions.
