The enrollment expanding of colleges and universities in 1999, made the development of higher education in China entered a new era. The gross enrolment rate in higher education is 19% in 2004, according to Martin Trow's theory of higher education massification, China entered the era of popularized higher education. The higher education massification is a new opportunity, while the quality of the enrolment expansion is widely concerned. According to Xinhua News, the gross enrollment rate of higher education Chongqing exceeds national average level, "the medium and long term program on urban and rural education reform and development of Chongqing (2010-2020)" point out that, by 2020, higher education will come into the stage of popularization, gross enrollment rate will reach 50%. To achieve this goal and facing the current teaching quality, what work will be done to maintain the quality is a profound problem.In view of the objective conditions, this research focuses on the teaching quality of the subject of biology of general university of Chongqing.The first part of the research is the background, the objective, and research status and research methods.The second part analysis the concept of teaching quality, structure and evaluation.The third part is design of questionnaire, interview and how to implement the investigation. According to the second part of teaching quality analysis, the student questionnaire, the teacher questionnaire and interview questionnaire is drawn up.The fourth part is findings and conclusions. The following are the main features of the influence from the college expansion to teaching quality of biology.①Conditions are not coordinate with the expansion, students learning and teachers' teaching level is affected.②The contradiction between teaching and research appeared after the enrollment expansion.③Teachers'teaching level is reduced.④Student's quality was changing.⑤Students'learning time reduced, while students'pressure increased.⑥Teacher-student communication reduced.⑦Teaching management increased. There are some other problems, such as curriculum provision and social need is separated; teaching management level is not matching modern universities.The fifth part is the analysis of the causes of problems of teaching from two aspects that is teaching task and positive function, and table proposals. It suggests to upholding the stability of teaching as central position in the universities to create a good atmosphere for teachers and students; to strengthen the building of teacher team; reinforce academic motivation; to establish equitable teaching stimulation; etc.
