The area of oasis accounts for about 5% of arid and semiarid regions, but oasis gathers more than 90% population of these regions. The development of oasification and desertification is closely related to ecological environment and human society. Cultivated oasis, as a special desert and semi-desert landscape, is not only the basis of human's living and development, but also plays an important role in the ecology environment. With the development of human society, some of cultivated oasis changed into desert, some changed into modern cultivated oasis, there are still of it shifted types between desert and oasis repeatedly. Only clarify historical cultivated oasis's process of change, it can be show a reference to the development and protection of modern oases. Consequently, it's an important issue to reconstruct historical cultivated oasis whose location, extent and area are obtained. This paper sums the concept, forming conditon and process of oases, analyzes the characteristics of cultivated oasis, then according to objectives and requirements of historical cultivated oasis, looks for multidisciplinary approaches to reconstruct it. These discipline and means includes historical geography, studies of historical literature, archaeology, investigation in field work, geographic information system, remote sensing and global positioning system, etc. We fetch information relevant to the study from historical document, archaeological materials, remote sensing image, field study records and maps, then integrat multivariate information on GIS platform under the premise of same spatial reference system, thus, we synthetic judgment the spatial and temporal distribution of historical cultivated oasis. Firstly, face with the cultivated oasis which has already changed into desert, we reconstruct it by remote sensing image interpretation and investigation. Secondly, we find another way to handle the historical cultivated oasis which under coverage of the modern oasis, at first, we reconstruct the historical residential areas and channels, then conclude the area information of each residential area indirectly. We take the cultivated oasis of Heine middle reaches from Ming dynasty to 1949 as an example, discuss and evaluate the extent and manner of multidiscipline in the reconstruction process. The results show that historical cultivated oasis can be reconstructed to an extreme based on multidisciplinary approaches.
