Kumtag iron ore, in Hami city of Xinjiang, located in the conjunction of Tarim plate and the Junggar Plate. It is part of Tage Kangguer Devonian and Carboniferous island arc belt in southeast margin of the Junggar plate, of Jueluotage Carboniferous island arc in the active leading edge of the Tarim plate. Kumtag iron deposit is mainly a siderite ore which formed in carbonate rocks, associated with gypsum deposits. In this paper, we combined field geological survey and laboratory study, integrated macro and micro method, correlated properties of typical minerals and standard mineral model theory. The formation, material source and mineralization conditions are discussed in this paper according to the study of typical mineral characteristics, sedimentary facies and geochemistry researchUtilizing the technique of Raman spectroscopy, electron microprobe, X-ray powder diffraction and so on so forth testing methods, ore minerals were tested and analyzed, which showed that the Kumtag siderite ore deposited in a sea environment.According to ore construction and the sequence of sedimentary facies, together with previous reports, we arrive to the conclusion that the sedimentary environment should be in closure of the Gulf, residual marine lagoon near the closed environment. The ore layer mainly distributed in iron dolostone sediments. Siderite formed in a fixed condition with pH value of 8.14-9.08 and Eh value of 0.114-0.147. an environment of anoxic, sulfur depleted, lack of silicon, together with abundant iron material from Submarine volcanic eruption and high pressure from CO2, creating a favorable condition for the formation of siderite. Therefore, we arrive to the conclusion that iron content of Kumtag siderite ore comes from volcanism process, the genesis of the siderite ore should be hydrothermal, volcanic-sedimentary origin.
