ABSTRACTIn this paper, pressure-swirl solid cone atomizers and steam-ejectors applied in multi-effect distillation desalination system were emphatically investigated. By theoretical and experimental research, the main factors governing the atomization quality of pressure-swirl solid cone atomizers were determined. According to the characteristic of swirl flow and classical inviscid theoty, the dependence of the discharge coefficient and spray angle of swirl atomizers upon atomizer dimensions was inferred. And the conclusion was applied in atomizer design. A group of atomizers were designed and manufactured. In consideration of there being no exact relationships between nozzle dimensions and atomization quality and nozzle design mainly determined by experiment, we had an experiment to determined various atomization index of nozzles, and understand the influence of nozzle dimensions on atomization performance directly, which provides some valid basis to final nozzle design. Finally, various steam ejector design methods were illustrated, and calculation program of steam thermodynamic characteristics was applied in classical thermodynamic method, which is called improving thermodynamic method. Compared in case study, it was found that the improving thermodynamic method is obviously superior to other methods.
