The pathogenicity and Outer membrane protein (OMP) properties of 8 strains of Mesophilic Aeromonas were studied by challenge tests,SDS-PAGE,Dot-ELISA and western blot.First, mice, carps and turtles were challenged by these 8 strains. Aeromonas hydrophila BA6 was identified as a nonpathogenic agent, while the other seven strains (BA1,BA3,BA10,BAH,BA15,BA16 and XA23) were pathogenic. However, there would be difference in virulence among the strains of the same or different species.Second, the OMPs of Aeromonas hydrophila BA3 were extracted with four experimental ways, namely ultrasonic break,ultrasonic-EP (EDTA and PMSF) break, abrasive break and abrasive-EP break. The best SDS-PAGE profile was observed when the OMPs were extracted by ultraisonic-EP break. Furthermore, the ultrasonic-EP break was chosen to draw the OMPs of 9 strains of Mesophilic Aeromonas. In the electrophoretic profile,5 strains of Aeromonas Sobria had very similar OMP patterns, and so had 4 strains of Aeromonas hydrophila. These indicated that there was a considerable heterogeneity in the major OMP patterns of different species. In addition, although the major OMP patterns of the same species had a considerable homogeneity, the mobility and shade of protein bands were diverse among these strains, which might be due to the sources of these strains.Third, western blot was applied to analyzing the OMPs which were obtained from four pathogenic strains of Mesophilic Aeromonas (3-1,BA3,BA15 and XA23). A 40 000 protein was proved to be their common OMP antigen, whereas the specific OMP antigen of the four strains was a 43 000,50 000,38 000 and 50 000 protein,respectively.Finally,20 mice were immunized with the OMPs of a type strain J-l(50 ,u
