Security is one of the most important indexes of performance for landslide engineering. Though usually the method of coefficient of safety can be used to appraise the security of landslide, it cannot express the security and the risk extend of landslide quantitatively, and cannot indicate the acceptable risk level for landslide.The variability of uncertainty is the intrinsic characteristic of geotechnical engineering. In order to evaluate quantitatively the security of landslide, the analytical method based on the reliability and probability has emerged with the times require. The reliability degree is the quantitative rule to express the security of landslide in the form of probability.There are a large number of uncertain factors in geotechnical engineering, and research objects are diverse. So it's improper to study geotechnical engineering through the certain theory. Therefore it is positive to do research through the random theory. Compared with the method of coefficient of safety and other methods, the method of reliability analysis for landslide can explain the influence extent of all kinds of uncertainty on the landslide, and can deal with these uncertainties more effectively and appropriately. Because all of the uncertain parameters are regarded as random variables and the statistical method is utilized to estimate their general characteristics in the method of reliability analysis, this is comparatively suitable for the realistic phenomenon.Taking the landslide occurring in Fengjie in the area of the Yangtse Gorges as an the example, firstly this paper gains the statistics characteristic of physical and mechanical parameters of landslide, utilizing experimental data and other scholar's achievement. Secondly on the base of the function of the landslide sliding limit equilibrium, the reliability of the landslide has been calculated and analyzed through applying general method of the test point. Lastly comparing the slide-resistant project of the slide-resistant pile with the slide-resistant project of prestressed anchored cables, this paper selects the safer and more economical project.In the landslide engineering the application of the method of reliabilityanalysis is not yet enough because there are many problems need to be studied specially and thoroughly. This paper has been attempting to apply the reliability analytical method to landslide, but it needs study further.
