Geographical information system (abbreviated GIS) is a software system of computer application which has functions of acquiring, packing, editing, dealing, and displaying for geographical data. This paper has been researched on some selected technologies of GIS. Data management technology of GIS has been analyzed ,spatial analysis method and application of GIS in management of devices and power in power distribution are also discussed in the paper. With the method of object-oriented the management GIS can be gained successfully using the development tool of Microsoft Co.'s visual C++. The system implements more perfect functions of graph and data management.This paper consists of six chapters. Basic concepts, history, present applications in varied fields and development technology of GIS are introduced in the first chapter. On the base of current spatial data structure, management technology of GIS is discussed in the second chapter. Using serialized file organizes graph data, and using relation database manage property data and linking data of graph and property data.Spatial analysis technology is studied in the third chapter. Analysis method of property and spatial information has been discussed. And the algorithms for distinguishing geographic objects' location relations also been fulfilled in the paper. With these algorithms area selecting of graphs , handling graphs , and information statistics , etc. can be fulfilled successfully.The chapter four is involved in designing of GIS prototype system .With the method of object-oriented and united modeling language, GIS prototype system is analyzed through using-case view, classes view and sequence view. And the modules and functions of each module are defined. The GIS prototype system can be gained successfully using the development tool of Microsoft Co.' visual C++. The concrete design process is introduced to implement GIS modules of vector graph system, display controlling , property database management, query and analysis, and help of the system.In the five chapter the application of GIS in power distribution is discussed further on the base of GIS prototype system. Some draw tools and functions are added in the new GIS. The approach how to get the topological structure of electric devices in power distribution is researched . With the topological data some advanced applications such as display area of power user's or power failure are fulfilled in this chapter.In the last chapter general review is given for this dissertation, and some improvement suggestions are also given.
