Supported by The Research Fund for Doctor Program of High Education under grant No. 20020079003, the basic principle of the finite-difference time-domain method is researched and used to compute the shielding effectiveness of the metal enclosure with an aperture in this paper. Based on profound research of the basic principle of the finite-difference time-domain method, the main contributions are as follows:1. The absorbing boundary conditions since the introduction of the finite-difference time-domain method are analyzed and compared. 2. Based on the computation of the shielding effectiveness of the enclosure with an aperture using the finite-difference time-domain, a suit of programmers that can change the size of the enclosure, the size and position of the aperture and the class of the source are programmed in order to research the principle of these problems.3. A method to compute the shielding effectiveness of the metal enclosure with an aperture and thin walls in two and three dimensions is proposed. At last, the method proposed is demonstrated to be true and effective through many examples in this paper.
