The research on urban system is the important part of urban geography, and also the application field of CIS. It sets the urban system in a region as its study object, and doesn't regard a city as a region system. So urban system research is different from other urban science such as urban planning science in study field of vision. One regards a city as a region and studies its law in development and evolution, and other regards the city as a point and studies its development in an urban cluster. Urban system research belongs to the latter. The general trend to urban research is from individual to group, such reflects that human cognition is deeper and deeper in cities, and his eyeshot is wider and wider. This meets the need for the demand of the social and economic development to the urban study. The history of urban geography gives a best illustrate to above all.Since our country introduced the conceptions about urban system in 1980, he has established some correlative rules of law, which has been promoting the theories research and the practices. But many scholars think that a great deal of problems exit in present that are mostly as follows: qualitative analyses keep major, and quantitative analyses less; the study methods are behind the times, and the modern new means are less used. These indicate that the theory construction is the most needs. In the mean time, GIS is using in many all fields as a new advanced technology and a sign of modern management and science, and its application in urban planning and management has been forming a strong tide. But in the actual practice, people realize that the application of GIS is in a lower level in which the use major in data management and special mapping, and lees in spatial analysis. Therefore, the paper selects the modeling and intelligent methods in urban system spatial distribution as the study theme with the correlative demonstration, which not only meets the needs of the social and economic development, but also meets the needs of promotion of the level in the theory of urban science and the application in GIS.The essence of the research on modeling and intelligent methods in urban system spatial distribution is that the laws are found by quantificational description and qualitative analysis with mathematical models, and suggestions are made for the urban planning. The modeling has the features of the general models and also these of itself. The paper studies the corrective aspects of urban system with GIS, modern statistics, fractal theory, computational geometry, and artificial intelligence; the paper also study the urban system modeling, builds some new models, and gives the corrective demonstrations.The innovation and work of the paper can go into particulars as following aspects.his paper researches on the theory and modeling of the estimation on the whole strengths of cities. First, paper puts forward the basic principles of the estimation, andwith the principles constructs a indexes system including four subsystems and 36 indexes, which considers new features of the society and cities based on the methods of the estimation on cities at present. Secondly, it analyses the principle and merits of complex component analysis, and with the methods estimates the 38 cities in Henan province. Thirdly, it studies the relation between the cities and regions about their development by cluster analysis to the 21 cities and regions in Henan province with 36 indexes for cities and 21 indexes for regions respectively. Fourthly, considering the relation, it tries to judge the developing types by analyses the regions with devising a 24-18-1 BP artificial nerve network.
