West coast of Liao Dong Bay locates at west wind zone in mid-latitude and its coastal line extends from northeast to southwest. The topography of the study area is quite complex with elevation in the northwest and decrease in the southeast. The area closed to the coast was distinctly influenced by the ocean and thus caused frequent sea/land breeze. The cell of sea/land breeze had important effect on the weather as well as climate for that area.In this paper, the method of statistic analysis combined with numerical simulation was used to analyze the properties of sea/land breeze cell for the area.By analyzing observations recorded for 5 years at Huludao weather station, we obtained 158 samples for sea/land breeze. We did statistic analysis to initial sea breeze velocity and direction, maximum sea breeze velocity and direction, the time of initial and maximum sea breeze, the time interpolation from initial sea breeze velocity to maximum, difference of initial wind velocity and maximum velocity, and the change of humidity before and after wind shift. We also compared the observations to other weather stations in inter-land and in the sea. The statistic property and seasonality of sea/land breeze cell were revealed.The modified meso-scale meteorological model, which takes the influence of abrupt terrain into account, is used. This model successfully simulated sea/land breeze and up/down slope wind. We used this model to numerically simulate the sea/land breeze case on July 15th-16th 1999. We analyzeddiurnal change and three-dimensional property of sea/land breeze cell and we evaluated the influence of topography on sea/land cell. The result was consistent with observations and previous research results.The conclusion was: during development and extending of sea breeze to the inter-land, there was a convergent zone between sea breeze and offshore wind, thus a sea wind front was developed, and strong upward motion was observed.The shape of coastal line as well as ridges did have apparent influence on sea/land breeze cell. The small hills closed to the coast would intrigue and enhance sea breeze. The huge mountains farther to the coast would cause up/down slope wind and the development of upslope wind would lead the extending of sea breeze.
