The crustal stability within China is variable with active tectonic zones. In 1996 Dr.Du Dongju compiled the Map of Regional Crust Stability of China by using the model of fuzzy synthetic assessment, which could be the guidance of national construction plan and position. But the result by Dr.Du offers information only by documents and map which could reflect limited information and the information is difficult to be updated and added. However, Geographic Information System (GIS) has powerful ability of data process and spatial analysis, it provides a new way for regional crustal stability research.Firstly, based on platform of MAPGIS6.1, the spatial graph database is established which contains earthquake activity, active fault movement, volcano activity, isoline of horizontal and vertical crust movement and isoline of Moho plane. Then weighted information computation method is introduced to rectify the traditional information computation method which isn't suitable for the regional crustal stability assessment. With the method, combining with the powerful data statistical function of Excel, the spatial analysis function of GIS is extended in completing this assessment. Finally according to the assessment result, the crustal stability of China is classified as stable, sub-stable . sub-unstable, unstable zones. The result is mainly in accordance with the former Map of Regional Crustal Stability of China, which indicates that the assessment model is rational and the method is feasible and practical.
