As probabilistic damage tolerance (PDT) can reasonably analyze the influence of the damage to the structures, recently many related research have been done. However, with the development of engineering technique, how to develop more reasonable method and use this technique in the engineering is a problem to the researchers. Related to the practical engineering, this paper has done some research work on the method of probabilistic damage tolerance and reliability. With the analysis of former research, at first, based on the durability analysis/damage tolerance analysis, a new method of stochastic crack propagation analysis is introduced, this method can insure the security of the damage structures, at the same time, it can consider the influence of the economy, the related formulas are given. With the reliability model, the reliability of the structure can be calculated. At second, the research on the reliability methods in the PDT is introduced, including the primary second moment method and Monte Carlo method, the application of the Monte Carlo method on the PDT is emphasized, based on this, a new stochastic crack propagation model using Monte Carlo method is introduced, numerical examples are shown, the results review the developed method is applicable. At last, on the base of the certainly damage tolerance program, with the object-oriented programming technique, combined the former research of this paper, the software of PDT is developed. For the three elements of PDT: residual strength, crack growth, damage inspect interval, the software can analyze reasonable. The work of this paper develops the theory of the PDT, and makes thefoundation of the farther application of PDT.
