This paper deals with the aphids of family Hormaphididae, superfamily Aphidoidea, suborder Sternorrhyncha, order Homoptera. There are 215 species belonging to 43 genera worldwild; in China, this family is represented by 96 species belonging to 28 genera. All species of this family are agricultural and forestry pests. They disserve sugar cane, all kinds of bamboo and other economic crops. Some of them disserve the crops heavily, for example, Astegopteryx bambusifoliae (Takahashi, 1921), Ceratovacuna lanigera Zehntner, 1897, C. silvestrii (Takanashi, 1927), Glyphinaphis bambusae van der Goot, 1917, Pseudoregma bambusicola (Takahashi, 1921) and etc. Species of Hormaphididae are also an important part of the biodiversity in the world. So systematic research of Hormaphididae is not only the necessary to the world's biodiversity research but also an indispensable part of systematic evolutionary research of superfamily Aphidoidea. It should bring us potential economic values.Taxonomic status and system, study history, comparative morphology and biology of this family are presented. In addition, development of setal patterns in embryonic and adult aphids of some genera is studied in order to get more information and provide more evidence for further systematic evolutinary research. Species diversity of Hormaphididae from China is studied from several aspects, such as species component, diversity of host plants, diversity of distribution in each province, city, municipality of China and diversity of distribution of zoogeographical regions and subregions. Geographical distribution map of China of each group is done by GIS techniques and distributional pattern and character is discussed.113 species belonging to 37 genera 3 subfamily of Hormaphididae (85 species belonging to 28 genera from China and 28 species belonging to 16 genera from foreign countries) are recorded in this paper. Among them, one genus is new record to China (Neohormaphis Noordam, 1991), 12 species (subspecies) are new to science (Aleurodaphis sinojackiae sp. nov., Ceratovacuna angusticorna sp. nov., C. beijingensis sp. nov., C. imperata sp. nov., C. multiglandula sp. nov., C. similindica sp. nov., Pseudoregma alexanderi metanensis ssp. nov., Lithoaphis quercisucta sp. nov., Neohoramphis wuyiensis sp. nov., Nipponaphis manoji kunmingensis ssp. nov.,...
