Quality of source rock influences directly the resource potential of hydrocarbon, and it will affect exploratory decision consequently. The disssertation evaluated quality of source rock in Jiyang depression in several aspects such as sedimentary environment, petrophysics, lateral distribution, type and factors that determine quality of source rock, for example, organic carbon, hydrocarbon generation potential, maximal absorbed gas of rock. Comparative study was carried out on source rock quality among most productive coal-derived gas areas in China. Results showed that, source rock of Carboniferous-Permian system in Jiyang depression is fairly good source rock as a whole, and stands in middle level in China. Aimed at complex geological setting featured by multiple uplift and subsidence, characteristics of secondary hydrocarbon generation were studied by means of thermal-simulation experiments. Geological factors that affect secondary hydrocarbon generation were analyzed in detail, and thresholds of secondary hydrocarbon generation in different sags in Jiyang depression were discussed.
