As the development of the remote sensing technology, more remote sensed images are acquired from various space or air based platform. This improves the spatial resolution, time resolution and spectrum resolution of images greatly. For all existing data, the most important thing is how to apply multi-temporal remote sensing images to the research of the dynamic monitoring, natural disasters, and terrain changes, etc.. And now it has been a hotspot of this field.Traditional terrain monitoring is based on the digital images or digital elevation models, which only provides a qualitative or quantitative analysis of terrain. But, for some special aim, for example, the road design in Motuo, Tibet, both terrain changes in past 30 years and local geological construction should be taken into account. Combined with tectonics, the paper adopts two images of different time and their corresponding DEM to do the research. The final aim is to find steady districts, landform changing rules and provide reliable references for road designs. At last, with the geological data of Motuo, the paper proved that the methods brought forward are quick, effective and precise methods to the analysis of the stability of the terrain. And their application is extended to the urban terrain changes detection.
