With the development of computer technology, it has taken place great revolution in the method of map making. All data capturing tools such as GPS, RS, satellite etc. have been used, which make it possible for people to achieve up-to-date geographic data of earth surface at any time. These data are stored in the space database, which is the digital Line model (DLM) of real world. These data is the best data source for making maps. There are many problems in the process of transform from space data to map, which is transformation from DLM to DCM (digital cartographic model). In this procession, the relationship between of geographic features is a key problem and the disposing order of each kind of feature can influence the editor works in later stage of map making. In order to reduce the edit works as many as possible, it needs to research on the mapping relationships of geographic features.On the base of the experience of making topographic maps with the scale 1:250000 DLG data, author point out the importance of the mapping relationships between the different geographic feature layers. Then according to the general rules of cartography and mapping experience, the paper carefully analyze how to dispose all kinds of features in topographic map, which is the disposing rule. In addition the paper summarizes the rule of subtypes in one type feature and the principle of process the annotation.For the sake of artistic effect, it need to deal with the graphic intersect and cut. Author offer the method of drawing symbols on the precedence order, which is different from the graphic cutting arithmetic. For example the realization of traffic network effect. First introduce the principle and implement method of joint and merge on the traffic level. Then carry out by disposing the levels of symbol. This method is also apply to L-P (line -polygon) graphic-cutting effect. Finally, it presents some difficult problems.
