In order to share and utilize all kinds of information and data about Antarctica between Antarctic stakeholders, the Cybercartograhpic Atlas of Antarctica has been created as Internet Atlas. Our country should play an important role as one main node of the Atlas. This paper has researched primarily for organizing and handling the existing Antarctic data and information in web server so as to realize sharing and visualization about Antarctic data and information in our country.First, several products about geographic information that are related to the Atlas have been introduced , such as electronic map, WebGIS, Internet Map, cybermap and the train of thought and structure about the design of the Cybercartorgraphic Atlas of Antarctica. All Antarctic data has been divided into four types: GIS data, thematic data, expedition data and multimedia data according to the data's characteristic, the relation between them has been also analyzed. After discussing and analyzing five spatial data integrated model: mixed data model, raster data model, object-oriented data model, hypergraph data model and feature-based data model, Antarctic data has been generalized and abstracted by the data based on feature. Antarctic data has been stored and managed by object-related database so as to realize sharing between distributed data after comparing and analyzing the popular database: relational database, object-oriented database and object-related database. According to the discipline of data shared and purpose, the hierarchical way has been used to organized Antarctic data. Oracle database has been used to stored and managed Antarctic data. The R-tree method in Oracle Spatial has been used to build spatial Index for map data. To optimize organization and handle image data by dividing data and building image pyramid. At last, according to the organization method for Antarctic data, the visualization for data has been realized locally.
