As one of the three pillars of Geology, Geochemistry is a key to understand the structure and evolution of the Earth. The geochemical composition of rocks and minerals are the keys to trace the genesis and evolutionary history of the crust and mantle, and also to discriminate the tectonic setting of the rocks. With the rapid development of science and technology and the constantly renewal of testing equipment and techniques, Earth scientists have more opportunities to get more geochemical data. In the other hand, it also brings too much of processing work of Chemical data unfortunately. In view of this work, the Ms. theses aims at the Processing and Application of Geochemical Data using Computer Technology based on the geology and geochemical theories, and designed a computer program to deal with the geochemical data. It is also used to investigation of the Paleo-Tethys tectonics in SE of Yunnan Province.Based on the development platform of Visual Basic.Net program language, development environment of Visual Stadio.Net, and background database of Access 2000, a set of software of Geochemical data processing Information System (GCIS) was designed in this theses. It will offer much more diagrams to show the geochemistry, petrogeneses and tectonic setting by means of comparison of two or three variables. Based on "relations geochemical" idea, this system is to change the geochemical data into the data images. Then it can process the multi-element geochemical data for the space-related data processing by application of multiple statistical theories of mathematical models. All the results will be showed in form of images, which include abnormal spatial distribution of chemical compositions, relationship of elements, tectonic settings of rocks, and deposits. The system adopts the design ideas of the management information system (MIS). In order to perform the function of editing and calculating of geochemical data, displaying of REE, trace elements spider diagrams and environmental discrimination diagrams, the databases and Graphical Device Interface (GDI) graphics and video processing technology of computer sciences were used. Additionally, the geochemical data will be stored in Access Database for easily extracted. The interactive interface style of common software system was inherited, and the object-oriented modular application framework was built. The system provides abundant of geochemical diagrams including a great number of diagrams of rock classification, elementsdistribution and tectonic discrimination for basalt, granite and sedimentary rock. etc.The GCIS was used in the studies of the petrogenesis and tectonic setting of the basalts from Jianshui area and Shizong—Mile belt (SMB), Southeastern Yunnan province. Ree diagrams, trace element spider diagrams and tectonic setting discrimination diagrams were automatic drew by computer and saved in JPG version. All the geochemical studies suggest that the basalts from SMB were formed in an extensional setting, while the pillow lavas from Jianshui area were derived from the mixed mantle, which composed of melting of mantle wedge with inputs of subducted materials. But the magma was stored in a magma depot in the deep mantle until Later Paleozoic. After that time, the magma erupted in the Rift along the ancient SMB. All above evidences indicate that the SMB is a distinct border that separates Yangtz Block from Huaxia Block. The application to the investigation in Southeastern Yunnan province is not only certified the utility of the GCIS, but also raised my understanding for late Paleozoic tectonic pattern in east Yunnan province. It is reasonable to believe that the GCIS will have a good prospect of application after some modification. The further expansion and improvement of the system will become useful geochemical data processing software. We also wish it to become a textbook for geological college students and professional researchers after some improvement.
