Recreation is one of the city four functions (Athens charter, 1930). With the development of China and the city residents' income increased, city residents have more free time and begin paying more attention to the content and quality of the recreation and jaunts. Public urban recreational spaces(PURS) become the main area for recreation. Many scholars begin studying the recreational spaces. Wu Bi-hu studied and made a category of cities PURS. The category begins with two market (user) groups, eleven systems, thirty-seven families, and thirty-eight branches of PURS. This category is a general system of china's PURS. But few scholars research the management and information announcement of cities' PURS, so the residents' recreational activities are aimless and most residents select the recreational activities through newspapers, magazines and their habitation surroundings. The paper selects Shijiazhuang city as the research area, and provides application service system WebGIS based on the China's SuperMap. The user can get the PURS information at home or any sites only using a common Internet Explore 5.0 browser. The system also can help residents select the recreation contents, ways, locations, and recreation process according to their demand. As the development of the society, PURS shows integrated and multi-function characteristic. Based on the existing classification system and the fact situation of Shijiazhuang PURS, the author made a function-based classification and code system of PURS for Shijiazhuang PURS. The classification and code system is from the point of view of users demands for recreational activities, and uses the hierarchical coding rule to provide a foundation for users' query of recreational needs. The system is a three-layer model based on the browser/server architecture. It selects Supermap Objects3.0 as GIS control platform and assembles the PURS database based on SuperMap MDB engine technology of SuperMap GIS. At server, the web service system of PURS uses IIS5.0 as the Web Server, and SuperMap IS3.0 as the map Server, which completes the data processing. Based on the Internet explorer, people can realize the following purpose: spatial browse for recreation spaces, classified query for recreation spaces and facilities, the demand query for recreation function and bus route, and analysis for the current service facilities. The system's object is to meet the residents' demands for recreation activities and based on the residents' recreation requirements. It offers a way for the public recreation spaces' management, and can improve the quality of the residents' recreation activities.
