With the more complication of exploration targets, the seismic exploration based on thesimple ray theory and the homogenous medium hypothesis can't meet the actual requirementsincreasingly. It is imminent that we should make the deeper research on the problems of theseismic response in a condition of the inhomogeneous medium suitable to the fact and thecomplex structures. The records from the elastic wave equation forward modeling involves allthe information of seismic wave propagation ,presenting many evidences for studying themechanism of seismic wave propagation and the interpretation for complicated stratum. Waveequation forward modeling is a real and available method for this problem. In the paper, according to inhomogeneous peculiarity of Fuyang oil layer in the north of Qijiaarea and geological peculiarity of complicated faults with lateral variable velocity in Hailaerarea, many lateral inhomogeneous medium models suitable to the real fact have been builtrespectively and subsequently wave equation forward modeling was practiced, based onmastering principles of wave equation forward modeling and techniques for building model. Theauthor analyzed forward modeling parameters influence on the modeling accuracy andefficiency but also put forward how to improve the efficiency at the maximum whileguaranteeing forward modeling accuracy. The paper analyzed wave equation response to the lateral inhomogeneous mediumrespectively through image of wave field, thus to achieve a better comprehend of wavepropagation in complicated structure and continued the subsequent processing and research. Thewave equation response to the lateral inhomogeneous medium was used to compare imagingquality of all kinds of migration methods with each other. The imaging quality of prestack depthmigration suitable to the inhomogeneous medium has been analyzed. A pertinent test was madeto analyze and compare the parameter influence on the imaging quality in the course of makingvelocity model, which is the key technique for prestack depth migration. The processing andanalyzing with the forward modeling data from complicated geological model improves theunderstanding of seismic propagation rules in the complicated medium, which has primary andrealistic sense for the problem of inhomogeneous and complicated structure.
