In this experiment, the ovary, oviduct and scent gland's modalities of Zaocys dhumnades were observed and analysed on the annual cycle by histological method;the annual changes of plasma E2 level, P4 level and T level, and its'relativity with the procreation system's development of Zaocys dhumnades were discussed by RIA method;the expression of sex steroids receptors and aromatase in the ovary and the scent gland of the Zaocys dhumnades were studied by immunocytochemical method. These results can enrich the content of procreation and endocrinology of reptile, and give the basic materials of procreating, protecting and using of Zaocys dhumnades.1. From Oct to next year Apr, the ovary index of the adult Zaocys dhumnades was low. The ovary index ascended markedly since May, and it reached its peak on June. The spawning period of the Zaocys dhumnades lived in Shan'nan area might start in June, and end in July.2. The follicular development periods of the Zaocys dhumnades were divided into four stages: oogonium, primary follicle, growing follicle and mature follicle, and the growing follicle was the important phase in the follicular development periods. The follicle cells of growing follicle were composed of small cells, intermediate cells and pyriform cells. Polymorphic follicle cells was particular characteristic of squamate reptiles, and this phenomenon also showed that the snake and the lizard had close relation.3. One of significance of the follicle atresia of the Zaocys dhumnades was that it made the amount of oocyte under control, and it guaranteed sufficient oocytes maturation under the condition of limited nutrition. When the atresic follicle manifolded on May, on June, on Aug and on Sep, the plasma E2 level of the Zaocys dhumnades increased markedly, so the atresic corpora lutea might have the ability to secrete E2. Furthermore, the follicle cells' feature of atresic follicle of the Zaocys dhumnades showed that the follicle atresia of the Zaocys dhumnades might be related to the apoptosis of the follicle cells.4. Different part oviduct of the Zaocys dhumnades had different function. The tubal development of the Zaocys dhumnades reched its peak on June and Aug. E2 could accelerate the tubal development, P4 resisted the actions of E2, and counteracted the development of the oviduct of the Zaocys dhumnades.5. The scent gland of the Zaocys dhumnades was holocrine gland. The scent gland secretions not only had the ability to attract opposite sex, it was likely to be used as a pheromone when the individuals in the genus contacted with each other.6. In the whole annual procreation cycle, the plasma E2 level of the Zaocys dhumnades had two peak values. The first peak value appeared on June, it might be secreted by the follicle cells and the atresic corpora lutea, and the second peak value appeared on Aug, most of E2 might be secreted by the atresic corpora lutea. E2 might have the positive actions at the vitelline synthesization and accumulation of the Zaocys dhumnades.7. The plasma E2 level of the Zaocys dhumnades reched its peak on June, and the spawning period of the Zaocys dhumnades started in June, these results showed that the corpora lutea had the ability of secreting E2.8. The plasma P4 level of the Zaocys dhumnades reched its peak on Apr. P4 level was low from May to next Mar, the reason of P4 level falling in May and June was that most of T turned to E2, and abducted vitelline synthesization of the Zaocys dhumnades.9. ER^ PR> AR and aromatase were all expressed in the ovary of the Zaocys dhumnades. The sex steroids receptors and aromatase in the follicle cells might play important roles in the synthesis and secretion of the sex steroids. Three sex steroids receptors and aromatase also expressed in the atresic corpora lutea of the Zaocys dhumnades, and ER was expressed strongly, the result showed that ER played key roles in the endocrine function of the atresic corpora lutea.10. The sex steroids receptors and aromatase were expressed in the scent gland cells and the secretions of the Zaocys dhumnades, the results showed that the sex steroids receptors and aromatase could regulate the development and the secretion of the scent gland of the Zaocys dhumnades, and AR was the key factor in the accelerating development and the secretion of the scent gland of the Zaocys dhumnades.
