This paper considers the evaluation of DaTong Late Paleozoic coal-bearing basin as the study object, take the sedimentation studies as mainline, and use the "overall, dynamic, comprehensive" research ideas, detailed the evolution characters of Datong Late Paleozoic coal-bearing basin by integrating plate tectonic theory, sedimentlogy and coal geology knowledge. Some conclusions obtained are listed as follows:1. Datong Late Paleozoic coal-bearing basin is a Cratonic fringe geological depression basin, the basement has two main components: one is a old crystallized basement formed before 1800Ma of lvling period and the another is the lower Paleozoic Cambrian-Ordovician. Regional tectonic background of basin formation is Siberia plate with North China plate continent-continent collides; the forming time is the late of early Carboniferous to the beginning of middle Carboniferous.
