The thesis studies the relevant contents of Faraday's Diary on the magnetic-optic rotation, and makes a profound study on the process discovery of Faraday effect. The notes of experiments on magnetic-optic rotation are analyzed in detail. The author points out that faraday cannot use the Nicol prism in the process of experiments in 1822. Faraday used many medium in the process of experiments, such as liquid, solid, conductor and insulator. The causes that the experiments early are abortive were analyzed. The process of discovery of Faraday effect and its correlative factors are introduced. The experiments after 1845 are analyzed. The author finds the difference of a primitive data on Faraday effect in Faraday's Diary and experimental researches in electricity. Some traditional views on the motive of experiments in 1822 are discussed. The paper deems that Faraday and Herschel researched magnetic rotation of polarized all alone each other by investigating their correspondences in detail. Some scholars think that William Thomson had ever played a role in the process of Faraday's discovery by one of his letters to Faraday. By studying the letter carefully, the author deems in this paper that it is a misunderstanding to hold that view; in fact Faraday had not been influenced by the letter. In addition, the thesis introduces the background of the discovery of Faraday effect, its recent development, and transmission of Faraday effect in the late Qing dynasty of china.
