Suzhou Creek and Huangpu River are the main rivers in Shanghai, they are all called 'mother river' of Shanghai, Huangpu River is the important area of protection of water source. Huangpu River is the location of 'Second Phase of Diversion Work' and World Expo 2010 Shanghai China, it's very important to value the aquatic environment of Suzhou Creek and Huangpu River scientifically impersonally and truly. This paper study on the Phytoplankton of these two rivers, has 9 sample sites, sample every two months from Apr. 2004 to Feb. 2005, it is six times. Study and monitor the community structure and distribution of Phytoplankton based on the monitor of physical and chemical index, analyze and discuss the function of Phytoplankton to value water quality. This paper analyze and value the aquatic environment of the two rivers by species of Phytoplankton, structure of community, indicator species, quantity biomass and Shannon wiener Diversity Index etc., along with the physical and chemical index. This paper offer the detail list of Phytoplankton in Suzhou Creek and Huangpu River.1. There are 141 species of phytoplankton in Suzhou Creek, which belonged to 56 genera of 8 phyla. Chlorophyta is the main phytoplankton, Bacillariophyta is the second one. Chlorophyta's average biomass is 119.45×10~4 ind/l, Bacillariophyta's average biomass is 97.79× 10~4 ind/1. Other phytoplankton phyla are in less biomass. Phytoplankton biomass has obvious change with seasons, more in summer, less in winter. There are 7 dominant species which included Cyclotella meneghiniana and Melosira granulata and its varieties.2. There are 244 species of phytoplankton in Huangpu River, which belonged to 83 genera of 8 phyla. Bacillariophyta is the main phytoplankton, Chlorophyta is the second one. Bacillariophyta's average biomass is 62.57×10~4 ind/1, Chlorophyta's average biomass is 27.49×10~4 ind/1. Phytoplankton biomass has obvious change with seasons, more in summer, less in winter. There are 7 dominant species which included Chroomonas acuta, Cyclotella meneghiniana and Melosira granulata and its varieties. The number of species in Huangpu River is bigger than it in Suzhou Creek, number of species in Chlorophyta is the most. The number of biomass in Suzhou Creek is much...
