As a dominating proportion of the land ecosystem, the study of the vegetation holds the balance in the study of the global changes. The study of the net primary productivity (NPP) will contribute to the study of the carbon cycle and the carbon dynamic changes. Its sensitivity has a great influence on the global climate system. The large-scale rough estimate with the remote sensing data will contribute to the global carbon storage, carbon cycle and the global balance changes. In this study, the NDVI data of the NOAA/AVHRR acquired on 1995 and 2000 were used besides the relevant ground weather data and the eradiate data. With the support of the GIS technology, the kriging interpolation method was used to calculate China's terrestrial NPP in recent five years, from the study, we can draw the conclusions:1.Based on the NDVI images of NOAA satellite besides and the relevant ground weather data, the terrestrial NPP of China can be calculated more accurately, and the inaccuracy of the conventional statistical model can be avoided. Thus the result of the NPP was more coincident with the earth's surface, it can reflect the spatial-temporal changes of the NPP more conveniently and accurately.2.Genernally speaking, the NPP of China descended from the southeast to the northwest. The greater NPP is in the south of Himalayas, the southeast of Yunnan province, most part of South China that lies to the south of Yangtze River, including Taiwan province and Hainan province, its total NPP varied between 700 and 1000gC/m~2. The maximum is in Hainan province and xishuangbanna areas. In some regions it can reach 1000 gC/m~2. On the contrary, the less NPP, which is nearly zero, appears in the desert of Tarim Basin.3.From this study, it can be drawn that from 1995 to 2000, the terrestrial NPP of China had a tendency to increase, that is, the total NPP was 5.03 X 10~9tC/a in 1995, while it was 6.16 ×10~9tC/a in 2000,it had increased 1.13×10~9tC/a. In the Southeast coastal and the South, including Hainan province and Taiwan province, it had taken on a tendency to increase, while in the Northeast, the Northwest and Inner Mongolia, it had taken on a tendency to decrease.4.The distribution of the different types of vegetation is as follows: the greater NPP is in northeast China and southwest China, while the less NPP is in the desert of the northwest China. It...
