VRGIS is a new technique that integrats GIS with VR. As one of key technologies that are used to establish"Digital Earth", it has become a new direction for the development of GIS. It has now been used in military simulation, urban planning, virtual tourism and so on. This thesis presents a Leshan Tourist Area Planning and Management System for the study of VRGIS technique and application in tourist area planning and promotion. It has a great practical value and potential social effectiveness. The main contents and contributions of this thesis are as follows:First, this thesis analyzes the development and application of VR and GIS systematically, and discusses the necessity of the amalgamation of VR and GIS. From the point of view of system and technique, some hotspot issues on VRGIS are researched, including complex scene LOD, automatic culling technique and other real-time rendering technique in addition to the three-dimensional GIS analysis technique. And those techniques are applied to the reality system, to achieve the integrations of the VR and GIS, solve the contradiction between run speed and vision effect.Secondly, the three software platforms including VRMap VRP and VEGA which are related with VRGIS are discussed and compared, from the point of view of supporting data capacity, simulation effect, secondary development. After considering Leshan Tourist Area's practical situation, we select VRMap which has an certain advantage in data organization and optimization, and try hard to solve the conflict between the vision effect and run speed.Thirdly, to import VRGIS technique into the Leshan Tourist Area Planning Rebuilding Project, and to set forth in detail the development flow of VRGIS including preparing data, establishing virtual scene, secondary development and so on, moreover, the system makes the reconstruction process digital, enhances the work efficiency and makes the decision-making more scientific in the process of planning rebuilding in Leshan Tourist Area. And at present VRGIS is rarely used in the large-scaled landscape on my mainland, so to a certain degree the thesis is innovative and advanced.
