In the Yellow River Delta (YRD), the Yellow River is the most important river flowing into Bohai Sea. In recent years, the decrease trend of the Yellow River runoff appears and the Yellow River does not reach often to the Bohai Bay since 1970's because of huge amount of water uses for irrigation at midstream. Those make huge influence on the environment of the YRD and Bohai Sea. However, when the flux of Yellow River cut down, the groundwater of this area still keeps in discharging into Bohai Sea steadily. So, terrestrially-derived groundwater plays a more important role in coastal environment than before, and studies on it are very necessary. The Yellow River Delta experienced transgression and recession three times, so the formation and distribution of groundwater was complex. Based on other peoples'achievements, the knowledge of geography, weather, geology and hydrogeology about the YRD was got. Drillings of new boreholes and pumping tests were done during field survey, a lot of soil samples collected for grain structure analysises, permeability tests and leaching tests in laboratory. Hydrogeologic survey were done during the flood and dry seasons of the Yellow River, water samples taken for major elements and isotopes (D, T and O18) analysises. CTD Divers were installed for observation of groundwater dynamic. After all of the work were finished, the distribution of the aquifers and the features of groundwater in the shallow part (the depth less than 30m) of the YRD were understood, and the formation of chemical component was analyze, and origin, recharge and water exchange of groundwater in the shallow part were analyzed by stable isotope analysis also. At last, the Yellow River Farm, located in the south of the Yellow River and the north of Xiao-dao River, was considered to typical domain. The geological parameters and groundwater levels of this area were used to establish the concept model to calculate the terrestrially-derived groundwater...
