High refractive glass bead is the one of the most important material to produce retroreflective material. The refractive index is the important parameter for the high refractive glass beads, which has direct effect on the retroreflective properties of glass beads. Due to the limitation of traditional method, the refractive index of the high refractive glass beads has not been measured precisely yet.The way to measure the index of water- beads by the first-rainbow is used for reference by this paper. The method to measure precisely the refractive index of the high refractive glass beads has been researched according to the theory and experimental results.Some results has been summarized as follows:Based on Descartes theory, which rank of the rainbow should be chosen has been studied and the secondary rainbow of the high refractive glass beads illuminated by laser for measuring its refractive index is a good one.Instead of measurement by Descartes theory's minimum deviation angle, we propose a way to measure the refractive index. This way is based on Airy theory. And by comparing the Airy theory with Mie theory, and analyzing the experimental phenomena, we proposed that the index will be determined precisely by measuring...
