The research scale of landscape ecology is from less than 10 square kilometers to more than 100 square kilometers. 3S can be used to obtain and process huge amounts of spatial data rapidly, so it is an ideal tool for landscape research and is increasingly used in the studies of landscape ecology. This research employs the theory of ecology, 3S technology, ENVI, MapInfo and statistic software. Multi-source data is formed by inosculating LANDSAT7 and SPOT2 image with terrain map and land utilization map. Using the multi-source data, the landscape pattern in Xinyang urban-rural interlocking belt has been analyzed and the pattern indexes of the landscape type's level 1 are calculated as the following:Fractal dimension: Construction area, farmland, forest and grass land, water, and naked ground are 1.0892, 1.1485, 1.0826, 1.0677, and 1.3241, respectively. Landscape level is 1.3978.Dominance: Construction area, farmland, forest and grass land, water, and naked ground are 1.7084, 2.1056, 2.0139, 2.8232, and 1.4611, respectively. Landscape level is 0.9755.Contagion: Construction area, farmland, forest and grass land, water, and naked ground are 0.75251, 0.85517, 0.66209, 0.87591, and 0.57269, respectively. Landscape level is 0.8700.Isolation: Construction area, farmland, forest and grass land, water, and naked ground are 0.0447, 0.0479, 0.0545, 0.0482, and 0.0642, respectively. Landscape level is 0.0494.Fragment: Construction area, farmland, forest and grass land, water, and naked ground are 0.05974, 0.04875, 0.01847, 0.00316, and 0.07250, respectively. Landscape level is 0.04308.These indexes have been compared with that of the typical urban and rural areas. Emphases are focused on the landscape fragmentation of the urban-rural interlocking belt due to urbanization. According to the statistic analysis, the distribution of landscape types is asymmetric, main landscape patches are small to mid type, Economic landscapes are relatively regular, and the degree of fragmentation is relatively low. It is suggested that more attention should be paid to the environmental conservation in planning future development of the city, especially in areas around the Nanwan Lake.
