The Benxi National Geopark, Liaoning is located in Benxi City, eastern Liaoning Province, with a planning area of 225.2km~2. The Geographic coordinate is 123°41'00"E to 125°27'19"E, 41°01'37"N to 41°21'15"N. Benxi National Geopark is a perfect combination of complete and typical stratum system, abundant fossils, typical northland Karst landscape in both the surface and the underground. Graceful natural landscapes, profound and unique history cultural, local customs of minority nationalities and well infrastructure construction, etc, which provides a broad prospect of the development of its tourism industry. As a result, a smarter and more effective information spread system is expected.The information system based on GIS technology which is used for tourism service is gradually accepted by more and more people. Computer as the hardware platform combines with GIS as the software platform can organize map data, image data and multimedia information scientificly. Thus multi-form information query and derect output comes ture. The tourism information system based on GIS integrated secondary development can also do a good job in tourism resources administration, spatially in geologic remains protection.Based on anatomizing references both home and abroad, ArcGIS Engine combined with Visual Basic.NET system solution is given in this paper. Vector data edit was accomplished in ArcMap desktop software which belongs to ArcGIS 9.0 edition, and the shape data with ShapeFile format were used as the system map data. The front-end system developed with Visual Basic.Net with excellent performance and friendly interface. The back-end database used simple SQL Server. Visual Basic.NET programs running on the server access the database with ADO. The system frame design, an expansible spatial database and attribute database design, map data editing, system UI design and system function design, etc, was emphasized. Based on them, the Tourism Information System of the Benxi National Geopark was preliminarily established. The map query, database administration, spatial data measuring, eagle-eye map, multimedia support and map exporting function were realized.The System, with an attribute of independence, portability and expansibility, works well and is easy to use. It gives a consult for the tourism information system's construction of the geopark, provides all-round and exact tourism consultation service for tourists and the conveniences for the government managing and exploiting its tourism resources effectively and adequately.
