Behind the edge of Himalayan collided belt, Yarlung Zangbo River flows from west to east, which parallels the collided belt, rounds ninety degree to the south by East Structure Knot, afflux Indian Ocean through Himalayan, is the topmost river in the south of Tibetan Plateau. The study to idiographic valley physiognomy character of Yarlung Zangbo River on the block boundary can commendably open out Tibetan Plateau grand ascend and new construct movement. GIS technology has been applied to various field of geology work with its gradual maturation.Based on Digital Elevation Model Data Space Analysis Technique, Yarlung Zangbo River drainage area is selected to be analyzed quantitatively to its landform and physiognomy by new obtained high precision SRTM DEM data. Typical physiognomy parameter of Yarlung Zangbo River drainage area is picked up economically, and a series of physiognomy analysis theme figures such as physiognomy highness, landform grade, slope direction and hypsography have been generated, which have been discussed and analyzed primarily. Profitable supplement has been made to new construction study of physiognomy boundary strap in the south of Tibetan Plateau.Vertical sections of Yarlung Zangbo River are picked up by such remote sensing software as ENVI and professional geography information system software as ArcGIS and ArcView. Datum are processed by MatLab soft, and River vertical capitulate ratio is created. Data layers are managed by Illustrator, and different layers are closed together ideally convenient for analysis. We found that vertical sections of Yarlung Zangbo River present clear ladder form. The crack spots may be caused by the control of partial south-north direction positive faults, but not signs of phased raise of Tibetan Plateau that someone else thinks. We found that the typical grid-shape water system pattern of Yarlung Zangbo River is mainly controlled by geology construction too. After statistic, we educed information of river breadth, which rightly showed special character that the river is wide and narrow alternate.We also analyzed structure cause of typical physiognomy character of valley south-north dissymmetry and middle reaches of the river wide and narrow vales alternating.The study of dynamic evolvement course of Yarlung Zangbo River (the parallel water system on back edge of collided strap) on Himalayan block boundary and response to structure action is a bran-new angle. In the same time, we established foundation for future study.
