Mineral resource assessment is a statistical evaluation of one or several mineral resource endowments in one region or in the whole world. It is one of the basic foundations for long-term planning of developing and exploiting mineral resources as well as expanding the social economy. Along with the development of Remote Sensing (RS), Global Position System (GPS), and Geographic Information System (GIS), gathering, saving, and managing ways of geo-information will be changed substantially. Under these circumstances, the research field of mineral resource assessment will be faced both a new opportunity and a new challenge. The GIS technology based on spatial feature of miner resource is applied to information analysis and orebody location prognosis in this article, which is organized according to mode of abstraction of spatial information , construction of the model of Mineral resource assessment , selection of targets of Mineral resource , Lots of work are carried out on Mineral resource assessment studying of the Devonian volcano-sedimentary basin lying on the southwestern margin of Altay orogenic belt .The main contents involved in the paper are as follows:1. The influences of high-new technologies on geo-sciences and the development of geo-sciences for the future are expounded. The basic idea and methods for mineral resource assessment in GIS environmental are discussed.2. The pre-processing methods for multi-genetic geo-information are discussed and These methods have been integrated with vector GIS.3. The three reasoning methods with uncertainty, belief theory , ann theory and evidence theory, are applied to synthesis of multi-genetic geo-information, the corresponding algorithm is laid out and realized in vector GIS.
