In recent years, great progress has been made in the development and application of GIS.But due to the difficulties, depth and extent of the study of GIS, special focus is given to thededicated study of the applications of certain aspects. The integration of vector and raster isone of them. In this paper, the research on this subject is explored in detail.Spatial data is the foundation of GIS. Raster and vector data are two kinds of importantdata in GIS, They are the basic model which can express spatial matter. But their datastructure's different results in their difference in expressing geographical information.Integrate them to express geographical matter will bring more advantages. On the aspect ofinformation expression, user can acknowledge geographical information without limitation ofdata structure and data organization, and can realize the whole zone; on the aspect of indexand analysis, it will make the statistic analysis's result more accurate and credible; on theaspect of data updating, using raster data as data updating resource can reduce data updatingcycle for it's character of real-time, it's the data updating development's main direction. Thepaper begins with the history and present condition of integration of vector data and rasterdata. Then the relevant background and theories are studied, and provide a new method ofintegration of vector data and raster data in an interactive manner on this foundation. Stackingtwo kinds of data in an interactive manner on displaying interface provide not only the realdisplaying on three-dimension but also the possibility of terrain analysis; they are storagedrespectively on the memory interface. The method of integration of vector data and raster datahas special meaning, first, avoiding the complicate process of the integration of two kinds ofdata; second, adding flexibility to spatial data expression and economizing memory space. The following work has been done in this paper: First, laying texture images on DEM,then utilizing Java3D's picking technology to realize picking of three-dimension modelpoint's coordinates, simplifying the process of generating vector data. Last, using computer graphics and visualization program technique to realize terrain analysis of three-dimensionGIS(elevator displaying, distance computing, area computing etc).
