Our country's exploitation of oil and gas in seas is still on the early or medium-term stage, and the exploitation in deep seas is still a blank. It's foreseeable that with the global exploitations of oil and gas speeding up in deep seas, our country's exploitation in deep seas will be driven forward, which has very important strategic meaning to the economy's continuable developing.In such background, on the base of the analysis and comparison of different type platforms in the deep sea exploitation system, deep sea semi-submersible drilling platform has been chosen as the key equipment to exploit deep sea oil and gas resource.Mooring positioning system is one of the key technologies of the semi-submersible drilling platform. In overseas, many platforms adopted mooring positioning system have been put into use. Compare to the traditional mooring positioning system used in shallow water, the system in deep sea is more complicated, and the design and the installation in sea is more difficult. So it's very important to research and master the technology of mooring positioning system in deep seas, because it has great meaning to develop our country's offshore equipment.This paper gives a general introduce and explanation about the mooring positioning system of deep sea semi-submersible drilling platform, such as the present status, the main equipment of mooring positioning system, the calculations of environment loads, environment conditions, design criteria, mooring positioning analysis and model test etc. From these researches, we will know the whole design process of mooring positioning system. In the research, SESAM/MIMOSA module is used, which is a professional program for mooring analysis exploited by DNV. Another mooring analysis program HARP is used to validate the validity of MIMOSA, at the same time model test is another way to check it. During the run of MIMOSA program, some input files should be got from WADAM, which is another module of SESAM, no detail introduce will be made about WADAM in this paper.By this research, we will almost master the design means of deep sea mooring positioning system, and have a good preparation to design our own semi-submersible drilling platform in future.
