The main measure of cloud motion wind(CMW) is presently based on themotion of cloud at two or three images from geostationary meteorological satellitewith a relatively short-time interval. The maximum correlation technique is oftenused in dealing with general images whose interval is thirty minutes or one hour. TheFourier phase analysis technique is proposed to address the problem of "sub-pixelmotion" which is met in deriving CMW from high temporal resolution images by themaximum correlation technique and the technique can obtain the CMW informationof less than one pixel unit. The thesis suggests a new technique for tracking cloud with combination ofFourier phase analysis and maximum correlation (TCFM) to improve the precision oftracking clouds ,because in the actual movement of cloud template, the motioninclude not only integer times pixel but also sub-pixel.The thesis mainly introduces the theoretical concept and arithmetic method ofTCFM , the new technique of height assignment of tracking cloud , the qualitycontrolling of cloud winds, the simulated experimental, the analysis in tracking cloudexamples of TCFM technique applied in GOES and FY2C satellite images, and thecomparative analysis and applicable range of tracking cloud with TCFM and othertechniques. It has been shown that the precision of tracking clouds has beenimproved over the maximum correlation only and that potential applications of theTCFM method in Cloud Motion Wind calculations exist.
