The result of study on the community characteristics of ciliates in the Gaotai Reach of the Heihe River was reported in this paper. Water samples were collectedfrom eight sampling sites——Gaotai Heihedaqiao, Shiba, Tianchenghu (South),Tianchenghu ( North ) , Zhengyixia , Luocheng Heihedaqiao , Maweihu and Dahuwan. One hundred and thirteen species, belonging to three classes, twelve orders, forty four families and fifty six generas were identified. Hypotrichida, Peritrichida and Prostomatida were the dominant groups, and the percentage of the three in the species number is fifty three point nine eight percent. Vorticella cupifera Kahl, 1935, Cyclidium oblongum Kahl, 1931, Cyclidium citrullus Cohn, 1865, Chilodonella algivora Kahl, 1931, Euplotes affinis Dujardin, 1841, Holosticha kessleri Wrzesniowski, 1877, Cyclidium versatile Penard, 1922, Euplotes muscicola Kahl, 1932, Chilodonella aplanata Kahl, 1931, Aspidisca costata Dujardin, 1841, Cinetichilum margaritaceum (Ehrenberg, 1831) Perty, 1849, Halteria grandinella (Muller, 1773) Dujardin, 1841, Chilodonella uncinata (Ehrenberg, 1838) Strand, 1928 and Cyclidium glaucoma Muller, 1786 were widespread species with frequency equal to or more than zero point five. Compared with various sampling sites, the diversity index and richness index in Dahuwan are the highest, in Shiba and Zhengyixia are the lowest; the dominance index in Gaotai Heihedaqiao is the highest, and in Maweihu is the lowest; the evenness index is no distinct changes. The range of abundance is comparatively wide, from ten thousand ind./L to fifty five thousand ind./L and the number of species are thirty three, nineteen, forty, thirty two, nineteen, thirty four, twenty seven and forty three, respectively. The composition of species is very dissimilarity. The results of analysis (Jaccard matching coefficient) on the freshwater ciliates faunal similarity indicated that there were obivous differences among the Gaotai Reach of the Heihe River and other domestic rivers.
