The magnetic photonic crystal (MPC), which combines the magneto-optic effect and photonic crystal structure, has been an important research field of Photonic crystal. It is very important in nonreciprocal optical devices, adjustable optical devices, and minitype, compositive optical devices and so on. MPCs can control the light by controlling on the external magnetic field, and then changing the off-diagonal element of the dielectric constant tensors of magneto-optic crystals. In this paper, we calculate the influence of the off-diagonal element of the dielectric constant tensors of magneto-optic crystals in detail, and study the Faraday effect and the transmission phenomena of finite layers one-dimensional magnetic photonic crystal, and acquire some properties which are nearly connected to the structure of MPCs.One-dimensional magnetic photonic crystals band structure: Under normal incidence, ifδ/εx≥0.05, the off-diagonal element begin effect the band structure; The eigenfrequency of the right-circle and the left-circle polarization modes separate from each other. The frequency of the right-circle polarization mode is higher than the left-circle polarization mode, and the difference of the eigenfrequency should increase as theδ/εx increases.Two-dimensional magnetic photonic crystals band structure: The off-diagonal element have no effect on the band structure of TM mode. Whenδ/εx≥0.1, the off-diagonal element begin effect the band structure of TE mode. In low frequency range, the eigenfrequency which is corresponding to the same Bloch vector should increase as theδ/εx increases.The optimized multiplayer films structure of finite layer one-dimensional magnetic photonic crystals: As the structure of D 0/( D 1/ D 2) n / M 3 /( D 2 / D 1) n / D 2 /( D 1/ D 2) n / M 3 /( D 2 / D 1) n/ D 0, the multiplayer films structure which have two magneto-optic films could simultaneously exhibits very high optical transmittance and Faraday rotation angle, the multiplayer films structure which have one dielectric film defect could exhibits the highest optical transmittance. In the condition ofλ0 = 1.3μm andλ0 = 1.55μm, we found the optimized structure of multiplayer films, achieve ten to twenty micron films depth, 45°Faraday rotation angle, and 100% transmission ratio.The equivalent homogeneous dielectric properties of films structure: As the structure of ( D 2/ D1 ) n/ D 0(D0 represents air ), semi-infinite dielectric films structure is equivalent to an semi-infinite homogeneous dielectric whose relative dielectric constant is as small as 10?6 magnitude. As the structure of ( D2 / D1 ) n / D2 /( D1 / D2 )n , finite dielectric films structure is equivalent to a finite homogeneous dielectric whose relative dielectric constant is also at the magnitude of 10?6 .
