Matrix PDC bits have been used more and more in the oil drilling and coal drilling fields etc. for their advantages of long life and high efficiency. However, restricted by the complicated process, multiple procedures and long production cycle of the mould manufacture, it is hard for matrix PDC bits to achieve balanced scale production. Flexible die forming can solve this problem effectively, however, difficulties in the processing of the first moulds exist as the bottle-neck of this forming.This Research came to solve the problem of the first mould forming mainly from aspects as follows: the design of the first moulds and the first mould forming process. As for the design, the structure of the first moulds, the materials and textures of various parts and their external sizes have been determined. With regards to the forming process, forming process of various parts have been studied, while the bottom mould forming process have been highlighted. Based on the analysis of the characteristics of bottom moulds, this Research has put forwards the issues that need to be solved in the forming, and formulated the bottom mould forming process, studied and made specific-purpose moulding frock, chucking fixtures and cutting appliances, thus fixing the bottom mould forming as the most difficult part in the mould forming. With the said research result, 10Φ96 matrix PDC bits have been made on trial basis. Indoor experiments and field production tests indicate high mould production efficiency and exquisite profile with good continuance, high precision, operation efficiency and consequently achieved the expected purpose.This Article has made conclusion thereon and put forwards the issues pending on further improvement.
