The control software and image processing modules are discussed and developed for the optical coherence tomography (OCT) system development in the thesis. The control software and image processing modules can meet different kind of samples and test requirements. The software possesses the functions of the controlling of the reference arm and sample arm scanning, the capturing of interferometric signals and data reconstructing, and the displaying of the OCT images reconstructed in pseudo color.The quantitative measurements of the layer tissues in OCT images depend on the extraction of the layer structures, the noises and speckles, however, cause severe difficulties to the extracting of layer structures. The second derivative item is introduced to control the diffusion along coherence orientation in the developed coherence enhancing diffusion algorithm. This algorithm was applied to preprocess the original OCT images, and then the noises and speckles could be eliminated, the valuable information of the layer structures might be kept and enhanced, and lastly the more accurate quantitative measurements of the thickness of the layer structures could be realized.The random vermiculation of tissue is inevitable during the scanning process and could cause detrimental influence to the quality of OCT images. An image processing technique without information loss is presented, and applied to improve the OCT images affected by the random peristalsis of tissue. With the OCT images of retina as examples, it was shown that the axial dithering had been removed effectively and the image quality improved significantly.
