Insect is an important component of biological resources and it is focus in food chain ofHupingshan National Nature Reserve. It has become the key issues in the research of keepingthe balance of ecology and biodiversity. Many scholars had studied about animal and plantresources, but there were no systematic investigations and community structure analysis oninsects. So it was not clear about the species, quantity and distribution of insects. Research onprotection of insects and development of Hupingshan National Nature Reserve to makesystematic investigations on insects and study the insect community structure become moreand more important.To find out insect resources and the characters of community structure of HupingshanNational Nature Reserve investigation had been carried out between April, 2005~October,2006 each spring, summer, autumn, 6 times altogether, 10~15 days each time. The route,sample land, and lamp tempts of investigation have been carried out.More than 10,000 samples of insects have been collected in the survey. In the paper, thelist of Hupingshan insect resource firstly reported. And 677 species were identified whichbelong to 109 families 14 orders. According to the fauna analysis of butterflies and mothsresults showed that the main region was oriental, and the percentages were 61.73% and 55.70%separately.Analysis on six main insect communities of Hupingshan showed that insect communitiesand richness index of vegetation had close correlation. The species richness, diversity indexand evenness index of evergreen broadleaved forest were 128 3.5627 and 0.7343 respectively,while dominant index was 0.0715. Succession of insect communities in this area wasHymenoptera primarily gradually took the place of Coleoptera primarily while altitudeincreasing. Analysis on the index of insect communities similarity about difference altitude,changes of each community took place between 0.38~0.63 Similarity index decreased withaltitude, and it showed that each insect community has its own characteristics.Butterfly community structure in this area changed along with seasons, according toanalysis on butterfly community structure of Hupingshan in spring, summer and autumn. Theresult indicated that the highest species richness, diversity index and evenness index occurredin summer. Dominant species of butterfly communities occurred in spring summer and autumnwere Papilio nephelus Boisduval, Pieris rapae (Linnaeus) and Gonepteryx mahaguru (Gistel)respectively. The dominant species of the whole year was Pieris rapae (Linnaeus). Thebutterfly community diversity index is 3.6593 and evenness index is 0.7895 All results showedthat butterfly community structure of Hupingshan National Nature Reserve had reasonable andgood stability.
