Land is the most basic resource for our living and development. It has very important meanings to grasp the dynamic change information real-timely, accurately and rapidly, for promoting rational utilization, planning and scientific management of land resource.In our country, we are facing the fact that there is a great amount of population and we do not have enough plantations. Therefore we need a good land resource management to achieve an optimal use with the current plantations. In order to strengthen the land management, we must grasp the related land utilization each kind of information first, and this needs to maintain the land utilization database to be at the newest condition as necessary.The high development of remote sensing technology and GIS technology supply a solid foundation for land use updating investigation. From the theory and the practice angle, This paper has studied the method of land use updating investigation under the support of RS and the GIS technique by taking Datong county Xinrong District as an example, the main research content of the paper is as follows: (1) Concrete to explain based on RS and GIS technology land use updating investigation technological route and in the land use updating the technical realization;(2) By using SPOT5 2.5m panchromatic data and 10m multi-spectrum data, a series studies have been done on how to rectify,merge,mosaic and subset the remote sensing image data finely;(3) In the land use remote sensing classification, Maximum liklyhood supervised classification and visual interpretation are applied and man-computer interactive interpretation is carried on this foundation. By overlaying present land use map on remote sensing image, man-machine interaction interpretation is carried out in the MAPGIS platform and causes the image, the graph and the data to achieve the unification.(4) Investgating the result of image interpretation on open country, the symbol database of Xinrong District land use condition is constructed that including digitalization and document format.(5) Confirmed the interpretation result of the man-computer by the field operation and analyzed its precision.(6) Briefly introduced the basic flow and the main content of establishing the land-use database.
