Resource evaluation of three time indicates that the Middle and Southern areas of BiYnag depression, which are main oil-bearing areas with high exploration degree, still have remain resource volume of 54.79 million tons for further exploration, especially in complicated lithological oil and gas reservoir. A systemic integrated research of this area with the use of modern oil and gas reservoir theory and exploration technology will give us a more exact, more complete and more detailed picture of petroleum geological conditions and provide us a guideline for future exploration and offer us a good help to forecast base rock reservoirs, stratigraphic reservoirs, combination properties of source rock, reservoirs and covering formations and oil and gas distribution. The research project named as Oil and Gas Distribution Research and Exploration Target Evaluation of Steep Slope Play of Southern BiYang Depression aims to expand exploration scope and lay a solid foundation to bring oil and gas exploration of this area from the present doenturn to a bright future, which will alleviate reserve shortage. This paper will combine integrated geophysical methods, especially seismic method, with new geology theories, such as serial stratigraphy, reservoir forming dynamics, structural dynamics of oil-bearing basin to study complicated lithology and base rock reservoirs and will place analysis emphasis on domination factors of reservoir formation of sand and conglomerate on the steep slope belts and the oil and gas distribution rules, and will discuss reservoir formation conditions, patterns and distribution characteristics of base rock by integrating seismic, outcrop, logging, mudlogging and all kinds of analysis and test information. Reservoir formation pattern of sand and conglomerate bodies has been established based on in-depth research of reservoir formation conditions and oil and gas reservoirs by applying new philosophy and methods, which indicates that oil and gas distribution withdraws to southern fault belts from deep to shallow. Many new wells including Mi-310 have been located and drilled based on the new understanding to acquire positive exploration effects. On the basis of the above mentioned research and results, further research of structural properties of fault belt, sedimentary properties of reservoirs and oil and gas reservoir formation rules has been performed to confirm potential exploration targets and possible reserves of 6.48 million tons in 2006, which brought an obvious economic and social benefits and will play a important role for further overall exploration in BiYang depression.
