After dozens of years of development, conglomerate reservoir is being exploited with high water cut. Reasonable tertiary recovery method is essential and urgent. Polymer flooding technology as an important method of enhanced oil recovery, after several decades of development, already in the Daqing oilfield and Shengli Oilfield, has achieved a major success. However, the technology is most applied in sandstone reservoir, and in conglomerate reservoir is less used. This paper researches the mechanism of polymer flooding in conglomerate reservoir, based on the reservoir rock and mineral characteristics and the serious heterogeneity of the reservoir. Karamay Oilfield as an example, research studies show that polymer solution has a satisfactory injectivity. The efficiency of polymer flooding increases with polymer molecular weight, solution concentration, and total injection volume. The optimum solution formula consists of polymer molecular weight of 2500×104, solution concentration of 1200 mg/L, and injection volume of 0.5PV. Conglomerate core of Karamay Oilfield have the static absorption capability of 2.86 mg/g, and the dynamic absorption capability of 0.42×10-3 mg/g. Base on the characteristic of conglomerate reservoir and core laboratory study, the favorable factors and unfavorable factors of polymer flooding are in-depth analyzed and the results show that polymer flooding technology is fit for conglomerate reservoir and it has a potential future.
