With the rapid development of computer technology, the application scope of electronic map is expanding at very quick speed. New techniques and methods of data collection are emerging, which make the amount of geography information grow rocketly. How to show users spatial information in a direct, clear, and vivid way is becoming an urgent problem recently.Recently, the overall roadmap for the construction of spatial information resource in Shanghai has already takes shape, which focuses on advancing the working, social and special editions. The construction of special platform and the platform for zones and districts are advancing at the same time. The rapid advance of application platform asks for higer standarded for spatial information. Unified graphic symbol display is a necessity for exchange and share of data of different kinds of formats. So, the file to standardized graphic display of spatial information needs to be enacted, which can contribulit to the share of spatial information in Shanghai by promoting the viualized disply of it.The whole thesis is constituted by six chapters. The first one is about background introduction of research contents, research meaning and latest progress of this field both in home and aboard. Also, this chapter analyzed the relations that the standard of graphic symbol display is the key factor to share of spatial information, and summarized research results and problems of standard of graphic symbol display in China. The second chapter concerns the cognition theory, characteristics of spatial information and symbles of the map. The contents and functions of spatial information cognition and the function of cognition in visuization are clarified. The third chapter mainly discussed the method to draw graphic symbol, visualization verables, as well as regular polygon, dotted line and circle line. The forth one confirmed the framework, analyedthe relationship among standard, application platform and data based on the researches above. Also, this paper choosed data scope in the standard, and clarified the grounds to choose, design and draw.The fifth chapter concerns guide lines, requirements, work flow, enforcement and draft. Experiments were carried out for some graphic symbols chosen in the standard. The experiments concern theme map, which looks nice by avoiding differences among individuals. The sixth one summarized and looked forward the contents of this thesis. The research results are as follows:â‘ Discussed cognition theory, map symbolized theory and method toreprestent the crossponding spatial information and realized them by c#.â‘¡Summarized graphic symbol display applied in various industries inShanghai with comprehensive anylisis of current application. Drewgraphic symbols of basic spatial information in Shanghai with the scaleof 1:500.â‘¢Enacted the "standard of spatial information graphic symbol in Shanghai"by researching on basic spatial information graphic and under theapplication condition of GIS application platform.â‘£Discussed the framework of the construction of spatial informationgraphic symbols in Shanghai.
