Landslide on the reservoir bank is a kind of geological hazard which has relations with reservoir operation, and the research on it is an important part in the stability analysis of reservoir banks. By far the research on landslide has mostly focused on the mechanics and physical process about the stability analysis but studies of movement process are still very few. With the increasing of large hydraulic projects, problems brought by the landslide movement will be more and more evident and important. So building rational 3D model, finding the distortion mechanism of landslide, and sequentially taking 3D dynamic simulation of the movement process are the key problems in the forecasting of slope on reservoir banks.Based on the rebuilt 3D digital model of slope mass on reservoir banks and the mechanism of its instability analyzed by using 3D limit equilibrium method, 3D dynamic digital simulation of its movement process is taken in the case that the reservoir slope maybe instable in this paper.Firstly, according to the features of geologic research for landslide, the NURBS-BRep hybrid data structure was put forward to meet the needs of 3D landslide geological modeling. Then, the corresponding abstract solid constructional model of geological structural blocks was established. Based on these techniques, a set of integrated 3D modeling method was advanced for landslide geologic bodies. It included four sections: the pretreatment for basic geological data of landslide, the 3D modeling of landslide digital terrain and sliding surface, the system construction of geological structural surfaces, the generation and representation of geological structural bodies.Secondly, the flow chart for digital and visual dynamic simulation of its movement is presented,according to the special features of two stages of the reservoir slope motion process, movement on ground and movement below water level. Then the whole process of reservoir slope movement is unified and its 3D visual dynamic expression is realized by using the visualization technology, photorealistic rendering technology and the animated picture generating method which concludes path tracking control method and physical mechanism method.Finally, outcome of the application in an large slope in a reservoir gives a visual description of the slope motion process and the surge undulation at the same time, which demonstrates the feasibility and practicability of this method. Thereby it supplies a more convenient and visual analysis means for the research of slope motion process.
