Xin176 block located in the northeast part of Niuzhuang sag is of great petroleum exploration potential, which was proved by several exploration wells with high commercial oil and gas flow in the fourth member of Shahejie formation. There are still some problems uncertain such as genetic type, provenance, and spatial distribution, etc.The chronostratigraphic sequence framework was constructed on the basis of comprehensive analysis of geology, well logging, seismic, geochemistry and palaeontology. The provenance of the sand body in the fourth member of Shahejie formation was determined by means of rock characteristic analysis, typical element analysis, sedimentation mechanism, glutenite content, palaeogeomorphology analysis, etc. The depositional system and its characteristics was made clear according to core description, individual well facies analysis, seismic interpretation, and provenance analysis, etc. And the distribution and evolution of sand body in the upper member of Shahejie formation was studied on the basis of the research above. The reservoir distribution of the target zone was predicted by means of geophysical techniques such as seismic attribute analysis, seismic inversion, etc. At last, the petroleum accumulation model of the fourth member of Shahejie formation in Xin176 block was established and the next exploration target was pointed out.
